I came back from Otakon this week with my husband and dear friend. I haven't been in about six years! We had a fantastic time. The whole summer has been filled with moving, traveling, and plenty of boating and wave runner riding. I enjoyed browsing the artist alley this year-- I used to do tables and sell large poster sized art. However, I don't have the interest to do art for profit, so I'd like to do a table next year, but it would be for charity to an animal shelter.
My favorite booth was by the artist katizua.deviantart.com. She had a lovely style and a great mixture of artwork and bookmarks!
As I prepare for the fall semester, I'm in the process of wrapping up several journal articles and preparing for teaching Persuasion and Media Production. I'm in my second year of working towards tenure, and the stress is feeling very real. But, I do love my job. I've also changed my legal name to Britt, so going by 'Dr. Britt' is new!
Speaking of doctors, my husband just completed his Ph.D. and a second Masters degree in Statistics. Commencement at Purdue University was great and so special for us. I am so proud of him.
As I think more about my upcoming plans for my art in the fall, I have plans to do research on issues that affect artists. I would be grateful to hear any feedback or ideas on what is important to you as an artist in terms of anything-- financially, as a community partner, and so on.
Until next time!
Best,
Becky
